How to Use the Control-Option-Command-= (Equals) Keyboard Shortcut to Decrease Field of View in the 360° Viewer
Keyboard shortcut: ControlOptionCommandEquals
Control-Option-Command-= (Equals) runs the Final Cut Pro command Decrease Field of View. It narrows the field of view in the 360° Viewer. That means it zooms in on the part of a 360° video you're looking at. It isn't a timeline zoom and it doesn't change the regular Viewer.
What Is the 360° Viewer?
When you edit 360° video, Final Cut Pro can show a 360° Viewer next to the regular Viewer. The regular Viewer shows the whole flattened equirectangular image. The 360° Viewer shows what someone wearing a headset or panning around on a phone would see, and you can look around the sphere.
How to Use It
- Open a 360° project and show the 360° Viewer.
- Look toward the area you want to check.
- Press Control-Option-Command-=. The field of view narrows, so that area gets bigger.
- Press it again to narrow the view further.
When to Use It
- Checking stitch lines: Zoom in to look for seams where the cameras' images were joined.
- Inspecting details: Check titles, graphics, or patches placed in your 360° scene.
- Judging what viewers see: A narrower field of view is closer to what some viewers will experience on a small screen.
Tips
- The opposite command, Increase Field of View, widens the view again. Check the Command Editor (Option-Command-K) for its key.
- For zooming the timeline itself, use Command-Plus and Command-Minus instead.
- You can still drag inside the 360° Viewer to look around while you're zoomed in.
