Using the Control-Option-Command- - (Hyphen) Shortcut to Widen the 360° Viewer in Final Cut Pro
Keyboard shortcut: ControlOptionCommandHyphen
What Control-Option-Command-Hyphen Does
In Final Cut Pro, Control-Option-Command- - (Hyphen) runs Increase Field of View. It widens the field of view in the 360° Viewer, so you see more of your 360° scene at once. It doesn't zoom the timeline and it doesn't affect regular viewers.
What Is the 360° Viewer?
When you edit 360° video, the 360° Viewer shows your footage the way a viewer wearing a headset or panning on a phone would see it: a normal-looking window into the sphere. You can look around inside it to check what the audience will see in any direction.
How to Use It
- Open a 360° project or clip and show the 360° Viewer from the Viewer's View menu.
- Click in the 360° Viewer.
- Press Control-Option-Command-Hyphen to widen the field of view. Press it again to widen it further.
- Use Control-Option-Command-Equals to narrow the view again and look at details.
Tips
- A wider view is great for checking overall composition and making sure nothing important sits in an awkward spot.
- A narrower view is closer to what someone sees in a headset, so check both before you export.
- These shortcuts only change your preview. Your 360° footage and edits don't change.
- For zooming the timeline itself, use Command-Equals and Command-Hyphen.
