How to Use the Option-Shift-H Shortcut to Show Hidden Clips in Final Cut Pro
Keyboard shortcut: OptionShiftH
What Option-Shift-H Does
In Final Cut Pro, Option-Shift-H runs Show/Hide Hidden Clips. It's a toggle for the Browser: press it once to show clips that are currently hidden from view, and press it again to hide them again. It doesn't change anything in your timeline.
Nothing is deleted when a clip is hidden. The command only controls whether those clips appear in the Browser.
When to Use It
If you know a clip is in an event but you can't see it in the Browser, it may be hidden. Pressing Option-Shift-H is a quick way to check. It's also useful the other way around: once you're done, hide those clips again so the Browser only shows what you want to work with.
How to Use It
- Click in the Browser and select the event you're looking at.
- Press Option-Shift-H. Hidden clips now appear in the Browser.
- Find the clip you need and work with it as usual.
- Press Option-Shift-H again to hide them.
Tips
- If a clip still doesn't appear, check the Browser filter. Control-C switches the filter to All Clips.
- Hidden clips aren't deleted, so there's no harm in showing them to take a quick look.
- The command is also available in the Final Cut Pro menus and in the Command Editor (Option-Command-K), where you can see exactly where it lives.
