Control-X in Final Cut Pro: Show Clips with No Ratings or Keywords
Keyboard shortcut: ControlX
In Final Cut Pro, Control-X changes the Browser filter to No Ratings or Keywords. The Browser then shows only clips that have no rating (not a Favorite, not a Reject) and no keywords. It doesn't remove anything from your clips; it's a filter that helps you find footage you haven't organized yet.
Why It's Useful
When you're logging a big shoot, it's easy to lose track of what you've already reviewed. Control-X hides every clip you've rated or tagged, so what's left is your to-do list. Work through those clips, and as you rate or keyword them, they drop out of view.
How to Use It
- Select an event in the Libraries sidebar and click in the Browser so it's active.
- Press Control-X. The filter pop-up at the top of the Browser changes to No Ratings or Keywords.
- Review the remaining clips. Press F to mark a Favorite, Delete to Reject, or apply keywords.
- When you're done, press Control-C to show All Clips again.
The Other Browser Filters
- Control-C: All Clips
- Control-H: Hide Rejected
- Control-F: Favorites
- Control-Delete: Rejected
Want to Clear Ratings or Keywords Instead?
That's a different job. To remove a rating, select the clip or range and press U (Unrate). To remove keywords, use the Keyword Editor (Command-K), or press Control-0 to remove all keywords from the selection.
Control-X is a simple filter, but it's a great way to make sure no clip slips through the cracks while you organize.
