Shift-Command-= in Final Cut Pro: Increase Browser Clip Height
Keyboard shortcut: ShiftCommandEquals
In Final Cut Pro, Shift-Command-= (Equals) is Increase Clip Height, and it works in the Browser. It makes the clips in the Browser taller, so their filmstrips are bigger and easier to read. It doesn't change clip height in the timeline.
Why Make Browser Clips Taller?
When you're reviewing footage, small thumbnails make it hard to tell similar shots apart. Taller clips show more detail in each filmstrip, which helps when you're looking for a particular expression, a clean frame, or the right angle. It's especially useful on a large display.
How to Use It
- Click in the Browser to make it active.
- Press Shift-Command-=. The clips in the Browser get taller.
- Press it again to keep increasing the height until it's comfortable.
- To make clips shorter again, use the matching Decrease Clip Height command, Shift-Command-Hyphen.
Tips
- Taller clips mean fewer clips fit on screen. Increase the height when you're carefully reviewing a few shots, and reduce it when you need an overview of a whole event.
- Timeline clip height is set separately, in the timeline's Clip Appearance options.
- To see every shortcut that affects the Browser and the timeline display, open the Command Editor with Option-Command-K and search for "clip height."
It's a simple display change, but bigger thumbnails can make logging and choosing footage noticeably faster.
