How to Use the Control-Shift-1 Shortcut for the Organize Workspace in Final Cut Pro
Keyboard shortcut: ControlShift1
Final Cut Pro includes built-in workspaces, which are window layouts for different kinds of work. Control-Shift-1 switches to the Organize workspace, a layout designed for sorting and logging footage.
What Control-Shift-1 Does
Control-Shift-1 applies the Organize workspace. The Browser gets much more of the screen, so you can see more clips and more of their details at once. It doesn't reset your layout to the default. That's a different shortcut, Command-0, which applies the Default workspace.
How to Use It
- Press Control-Shift-1. The window switches to the Organize layout.
- Review your clips in the larger Browser. Skim, play, and check metadata as you go.
- Tag and rate as you work: press F to favorite a range, Delete to reject it, or Command-K to add keywords.
- When you're ready to edit, press Command-0 to return to the Default workspace.
When It Helps
- After a big import: Use Organize to log and keyword everything before you start cutting.
- Metadata work: The bigger Browser makes it easier to work in list view and compare clip information.
Tips
- You'll also find the workspaces under Window > Workspaces, along with an option to save your own custom layouts.
- If you've rearranged panels and just want things back to normal, Command-0 is the shortcut you're looking for, not Control-Shift-1.
Switching layouts to match the task helps you log faster and keeps your editing layout uncluttered.
