How the Shift-Command-, (Comma) Shortcut Shows Fewer Filmstrip Frames in Final Cut Pro
Keyboard shortcut: ShiftCommandComma
What Shift-Command-Comma Does
In Final Cut Pro, Shift-Command-, (Comma) runs Show Fewer Filmstrip Frames. It shows fewer filmstrip frames in Browser clips. Each clip's filmstrip is drawn with fewer thumbnails, so it represents a longer stretch of time per frame. It doesn't change the timeline or zoom your project.
Why Change Filmstrip Frames?
In filmstrip view, the Browser shows each clip as a strip of thumbnails. When the strips are very long, it can be hard to scan an event. Showing fewer frames makes each clip shorter on screen, so you can see more clips at once and get a quick overview of an event.
How to Use It
- Click in the Browser and make sure it's in filmstrip view.
- Press Shift-Command-Comma. Each clip shows fewer frames.
- Press it again to show even fewer.
- Press Shift-Command-Period to show more frames when you need detail.
Tips
- Use fewer frames when you're scanning an event for the right clip, and more frames when you're picking an exact moment to mark a range.
- This setting only affects how the Browser displays clips. Your media and edits don't change.
- To change how clips look in the timeline instead, use the timeline's clip appearance settings.
