macOS: Time Machine

One of the most important steps you can take to protect your data is to make a backup. The operating system bundled with every Mac is macOS and includes an application called Time Machine. When enabled, Time Machine creates a backup of the data on your Mac and copies it to an external storage device. To set up and start a Time Machine backup, follow these steps:

  1. Open System Preferences
  2. Click Time Machine
  3. Select a destination for backups
  4. Allow a backup to happen
  5. Verify the backup is working
